How to Get a Minnesota Voter List for Your Campaign

Step by step

Find your district. Check your qualifying paperwork or your county elections office for the exact district, ward or precinct your race covers.
Order the matching list from the Minnesota Secretary of State. Fill out the paper Registered Voter List Request form, sign the statement that you are a registered Minnesota voter, and mail it or drop it off with payment (online orders are not accepted). Use the table below to pick the right list.
Get your file. An email with a link to an encrypted download, including instructions to unlock it. The link works for seven days. CDs are no longer offered.

Who can order it

Only a registered Minnesota voter can order, so as the candidate you should order it yourself. You may use it only for elections, political activity or law enforcement, and you may not post it online or sell or give it to anyone outside your campaign. You may share it with your own volunteers and staff (Minn. Stat. § 201.091).

Tips before you order

Pick the "Detailed Voting History for All Elections" report in text format. It is the only one with voter ID, precinct, district codes and full voting history. It comes as two files, one of voters and one of elections, linked by voter ID.
The Walking List is simpler: one file sorted by street, with phone, birth year and the last six years of voting. It leaves out voter ID and precinct.
Download the file as soon as the email arrives. The link expires after seven days.
Each list needs its own form, but you can mail several forms together with one check.
Voting history can take up to six weeks to update after an election, so order after the last election has been posted if turnout history matters to you.
