How to get a Massachusetts voter list for your campaign

Step by step

1. Find your district. Check your qualifying paperwork or your county elections office for the exact district, ward or precinct your race covers.
2. Order the matching list from your city or town election office. Ask the town clerk, board of registrars or city election commission in each city or town in your district for its voting list, and say you are a candidate. Ask for an electronic file. Use the table below to pick the right list.
3. Get your file. It depends on the town. Cambridge, for example, emails its voter extract for free. Paper voting lists and street listing books are also available from the registrars.

Tips before you order

• Your list comes from the city or town, not the state. If your district covers more than one community, send a request to each one.
• Ask for the list as an electronic file (Excel or CSV) so you can upload it, rather than a printed book.
• Ask separately for voting history and name the elections you want. Cambridge sends it free by email.
• The first voting lists of a state election year must be ready by July 1, so ask again closer to your election for newer registrations.
• Phone numbers and email are not on the voting list. Collect them at the door and record them in CampaignKnock as you go.

The statewide central registry is not a public record and goes only to statewide candidates, state parties and certain others (M.G.L. c. 51, § 47C).
